Kenneth Van Winkle – Osceola

Kenneth Van Winkle, 94, of Osceola died March 13, 2013, at Southern Hills Specialty Care.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.

Kenneth James Van Winkle, son of Agnes J. (Putz) and George Van Winkle, was born May 26, 1918, in Lucas County.

In 1940, Kenny married Edythe Utley and started farming south of Lucas.

Edythe died in 1967.

Kenny joined the Order Of The Eastern Star April 3, 1968, and during that time he served as worthy patron six times, associate patron six times and marshall 15 times. Kenny was also a member of Zig-Ga-Zig Shrine and York Rite. He served Unity Lodge No. 212 as WM in 1987 and has been chaplin continually since 1989.

Kenny is survived by his sisters, Delores Beakler of Des Moines, Arlene Horton of Osceola and Mildred Ruth of Tabor; brother Floyd “Rip” (Lois) Van Winkle of Independence, Mo.;  many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. 

In addition to his wife, Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; sister Louise Van Winkle and brother Paul Van Winkle.
