Local IFBF scholarship winners

Clarke County Farm Bureau recently submitted IFBF scholarship applications for two seniors of Clarke County Farm Bureau members.

There are six winners in each of the nine districts in Iowa, and throughout the years there have been several from Clarke County who have been awarded a scholarship in District 8. This year, both applicants received one of the $1,000 scholarships.

Congratulations to Jenna Sandquist, the daughter of Steve and Stephanie Sandquist who is a student at I-35 High School. Congratulations to Colin Morris, the son of Gary and Karen Morris who is a student at Clarke Community High School.

Sandquist has been active in 4-H, extracurricular sports, community events and church activities.

Her plans are to attend Iowa State University and have a double major in agricultural research and music. Her goal is to share her acquired knowledge with family, friends and farmers to create better agricultural products, keep the environment clean and to help feed the world, creating a better future.

According to Sandquist, “I am a firm believer that your knowledge isn’t being taken full advantage of if you are not sharing it with others.” And, “It is important to give back to your community … as a continuous cycle.”

Morris has been active in 4-H, FFA and extracurricular sports and plans to take on agricultural studies at Iowa State University.

His goal is to learn about all aspects of the agricultural industry with its ever changing face, using the changes to affect positive results in agriculture and eventually return to his family farm and build his own farming operation.

Morris realized the “industry is continually changing and to be a successful farmer, I will need to know how to understand and to react to those changes.”

Clarke County Farm Bureau members congratulate both of them for their accomplishments and wish them the best as they enter into another phase of their life.
