Clarke girls 4th at Wayne Invite

CORYDON — The Clarke cross country teams opened the season here on Sept. 4 at the Wayne Invitational.

The Clarke girls finished fourth out of 12 teams with a team score of 161 points, finishing ahead of South Central Conference opponents Albia, Centerville and Chariton.

Davis County finished second with 80 points, behind team champion Creston’s 56. Central Decatur finished eighth with 206 points.

On the boys side, Clarke finished eighth with 223 points. Central Decatur was fifth with 184 points.

Freshman Kylie Shields led the Clarke girls team with her 18th place finish, covering the 4K course in 19:12. Tiffany McKnight finished 25th in 19:40, while Hallee Ashby was 37th in 20:59. Lindsey Mumaw finished 39th in 21:01 and Chelsea Selsor rounded out the team scoring with a 42nd place performance in 21:18.

Central Decatur girls were led by Sarah Woods in 14th place, running 18:46.

On the boys side, Clarke’s Jake Manternach led the way for the Indians, finishing 17th in 20:29 for the 5K course. James Robinson was 45th in 22:53. Parker Hardy finished 51st in 23:37, right ahead of teammate Nick Johnston in 52nd place at 23:38. Timber Kent rounded out the team scoring by placing 57th in 24:08.

Central Decatur was led by Sergio Cardenas, who finished 26th in 21:20.
