Committee to review, approve Clarke County Hazard Mitigation Plan

For more than two years, a committee of interested persons have been working on a hazard mitigation plan for the entire county.

The plan covers all the key jurisdictions and properties in the county and will meet state and federal requirements for planning and funding. The county has hired the Southern Iowa Council of Governments to prepare the plan. The plan is nearly complete and we are seeking public comments about the draft.

There are several ways to access the plan in mid-September. Hard copies can be found at the Clarke County Emergency Management Agency in the courthouse in Osceola, Osceola City Hall, Murray City Hall and Woodburn City Hall. An electronic version of the plan will soon be available at www.sicog.com. You can make comments to Jeremy Rounds of SICOG at 641-782-8491 or rounds@sicog.com through the end of September.

Additionally, people can comment at a public forum to be held later in September. The meeting will be located at the American State Bank meeting room in Osceola from 5-6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29. A brief presentation will lead off the meeting and the public can come in at any time to provide comments or discuss issues with the plan.
