Get to know your supervisor candidates

Two candidates are running in a local race in this year’s November elections — Clarke County Board of Supervisors District No. 1.

Bill Black and Myron Manley were both given questionnaires about why they’re running for the position. The candidates are listed in alphabetical order.

Here are their answers.

Bill Black

Tell me about yourself.

I was born and raised in Clarke County and graduated from Murray High School. I understand the needs of Clarke County. I am active in a number of county and community organizations. My wife Carla and I live on our farm in Washington Township. We have been married 41 years and have three wonderful daughters and four grandchildren.

What position are you running for? Why are you running?

I am running for Clarke County Board of Supervisors District No. 1. I would like the opportunity to work with others to make our county a great and safe place to live.

What makes you the best candidate for the position?

I have 40 years of business experience, working with people, getting things done on time and within the budget. When I retired from Doors, Inc., I held the position of vice-president/general manager. I have the time now to take on this challenging position and use my skills towards improving the future for everyone in Clarke County.

What would you hope to accomplish if elected?

I will work to provide the essential services needed in the county with the lowest possible cost to the taxpayers, including getting our road and bridge infrastructure back to an acceptable condition.

I am open, approachable, and honest. You can rely on what I say. I will take the time to understand every item we vote on, and be fair with my decision.

Myron Manley

Tell me about yourself.

I have proudly served the people of Clarke County for the past 47 years, including the last 12 years on the board of supervisors. Working for 35 years for Clarke County Secondary Roads and being a lifelong resident of Clarke County have played valuable roles during my three terms on the board of supervisors. My wife Linda and I live east of Osceola where we operate a cow-calf operation.

What position are you running for? Why are you running?

I am running for a fourth term on the Clarke County Board of Supervisors District No. 1. During my time on the board, I have worked hard to provide our county residents the valuable services they need on a daily basis. We must continue to find ways to improve these services and be aware of what lies ahead for our future needs.

What makes you the best candidate for this position?

I bring almost five decades of working for the great people of Clarke County. I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the board. I believe in the fair treatment of all the county taxpayers.

What would you hope to accomplish if elected?

I have and will continue to work for the good of Clarke County and its great people while fighting to hold our tax levies in check. This is something I pledge to continue fighting for. We must continue to improve our courthouse security, as has been regulated by our judges and judicial system. And, every day, I will work to keep and expand our services while not adding to our residents’ tax burdens.
