Food pantry stock-up planned

The next Community Make a Difference Day is planned 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

For the food pantry stock-up, there will be a collection of items for local food pantries and the school backpack program.

Here are some ways to help make a difference:

• Print copies of the event flyer. The flyer can be sent electronically or in paper form. Flyers will be given out at grocery stores and some local businesses.

• Give out flyers at your business or where you work.

• Collect items ahead of the event date. Ideas include placing a labeled collection box or bin in a prominent place and encouraging donations.

• Send one or more teams (recommended 2-5 people per team) on event day. Teams will be assigned streets to canvas (go door to door) collecting items. Sending a team enters your business/group/family in the collection competition. There will be prizes. All items count toward your total — those collected ahead of time plus those collected on the event day.

• Donate prize(s) for the collection competition.

• Help at event headquarters. Help is needed sending teams out and counting items as teams return from assigned collection routes. Event headquarters will be at Osceola Fareway.

Teams will pick up area maps and drop off collected items at the Fareway store between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the event day.

Examples of needed items include:

• Canned food of all kinds (fruits, vegetables, main dishes, beans, soups)

• Boxed foods (hot or cold cereals, noodles, rice, jello/puddings)

• Bagged foods (beans, rice)

• Cleaning products (Laundry, dish, all purpose)

• Toiletries (deodorants, soap/body wash, shampoo/conditioner, lotions, shaving products, feminine products)

• Paper products (toilet paper, facial tissues, napkins, paper towels)

• First aid products (band aids, q-tips)

• Miscellaneous items (other general household items)
