Third annual hunting seminar, chili feed planned in Decatur County

The Decatur County 4-H Shooting Sports will host their third annual Hunting Seminar and Chili Feed Sunday, Feb. 22, at Decatur County Fairgrounds.

Chili serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. with freewill donations going to support the 4-H Shooting Sports program.

Featured speaker for the evening will be Chancy Walters, a hunting and fishing guide who travels from Alaska to Arkansas combining his hunting, fishing and painting passions to “Live The Dream.”

Walters, who was born and raised in Iowa, is co-founder and creator of Turkey Reapers. Turkey Reapers website touts turkey reaping as the most “action-packed, waddle-slapping, in-your-face” way to hunt turkeys. They travel the Midwest chasing down the toughest toms in the woods.

If Walters isn’t hunting or fishing, he is painting, but not on a medium people might think. He also earns a living by painting turkey feathers. His encounter with a high school art teacher encouraged him to draw whatever he wanted and helped develop his creativity.

Whether it be southern Iowa or Alaska, Walters uses the country around him as inspiration, and Walters Wildlife Art was born.
