Glenn M. ‘Jiggs’ Schaff Osceola

Glenn M. “Jiggs” Schaff, son of Lyle Raymond Schaff and Bertha Faye (Mennealy) Schaff was born August 17, 1937 in Peru, Iowa, and passed from this life Friday, February 13, 2015 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa at 77 years of age.

“Jiggs” lived in Peru, Lorimor and Murray, and his school years his family had moved to Osceola. “Jiggs” had worked early years as a care giver at the nursing home, and then worked as a brick layer for Lindsey Construction, building houses. He began his years as an over the road trucker and worked for Rock Island Motor Transit, covering many miles all across the country. “Jiggs” was a hard worker and very dependable.

“Jiggs” was a prankster and enjoyed teasing all the kids in the family, who loved him dearly and all called him “Uncle Jiggie.” He enjoyed dancing, traveling, riding motorcycles and talking on the CB with his CB club. He always dressed well and was caring, respectful, and devoted to others. He enjoyed vacations in Florida where he had a condo and boat and to Texas with his 5th wheel to visit his sister Betty and her family. He took many trips to Minnesota to visit a niece with his sisters and a niece. He was an excellent navigator far before GPS was invented.

“Jiggs” loved his community and worked hard for the betterment of his community. He was elected and served 14 years on the Osceola City Council. Many people would call “Jiggs” when they had a concern they wanted addressed in town. He spent many hours driving around town, checking on problems that had been presented; he took great joy in being able to help. “Jiggs” served on the Senior Center Board, Water Board and the Osceola Eagles board.

Those relatives who preceded “Jiggs” in death were his parents, Lyle and Bertha Schaff, brothers, Dale “Bud” and Richard “Dick” Schaff, sisters, Lois Flowers, Joy Hodges, Ilene Lindsey, and Betty Simpson, nephews, Dennis Lindsey, Kelly Pigg, and Jody Dale Schaff, great-nephew, Steven Lindsey, brothers-in-law, Eldon McVey, Max Simpson, Johnnie Flowers, Jay Pigg, and Jack Bromley.

Glenn leaves to cherish his memory, daughter, Cynthia (Bruce) Hall of Des Moines, IA, son, Randall Schaff of Des Moines, IA, son, Montgomery (Teresa) Schaff of Des Moines, IA, sister, Eva (Denny) Doran of Osceola, IA, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many many friends.

Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Wednesday February 18, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Shane Simpson officiating.

Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Kale Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to his family for a bench to be placed on the city square of the courthouse court yard.
