Whitham attains PhD

Monica Whitham, Clarke Community High School 1997 graduate, earned a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Arizona in May 2014.

She has accepted a position as associate professor at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.

Dr. Whitham's primary research interests are social psychology, group processes, social networks, and community sociology. Her research agenda examines the effects of social connections, such as social capital and social identity, on processes and outcomes that require cooperative collective input, including community success and generalized exchange. Her work has been published in the American Sociological Review, Sociological Forum, and Social Psychology Quarterly.

Dr. Whitham is the daughter of Marlene and Ronald Whitham of Cassville, Mo., formerly residents of Woodburn. Her maternal grandparents Marlin and Mary Jo Querrey reside in Chariton.
