How did the shooting Spartans finish their season?

Saturday, April 25, was the Iowa Collegiate Shooting Sports Conference Championships held at the High Lakes Outdoor Alliance Gun Club facilities in Afton. SWCC was leading in team points coming into this event by just more than 30 points.

However, just as things have gone with this team all year, they came to shoot by adding more than 50 points to the yearly total, putting second place behind them by 94 points at the end of the day.

The state champion of the men was SWCC Spartan Brandon Dvorsky, along with women’s champion SWCC Spartan Shelby Woods.

At the championship’s end, the SWCC Shooting team had seven men in the top 10, including Brandon Dvorsky, Ethan Jolliff, Cody Bruggemeyer, Easton Ressler, Trenton Cheers, Jonathan Cox and Justin Woods.

In the women’s division, the SWCC Spartans had four women in the top 10 with Shelby Woods being the champion, along with other top finishers of Katie Fuller, Cami Feehan, and Amanda Spencer.

The Spartan shooting team accomplished a lot this season with these accolades:

• Iowa Collegiate Shooting Sports Conference Champions

• Undefeated in all conference competitions

• Iowa DNR State Champions

• With a sixth place finish at nationals missing the title by just 12 targets

Recently, the team learned Shelby Woods has been invited to go to the “athlete development camp” being held at the Olympic training facility in Colorado Springs, Colo., in June.

“When I called USA Shooting to inquire about Shelby and what she can expect at the Olympic training, I was also invited out to Colorado Springs to coach at the camp and be part of the ‘Olympic coach development program,’” said team coach Charlie Mundy. “We are all excited for these upcoming events, as well as the great success of our team this year.”
