The Clarke boys finished fifth and the Clarke girls sixth here May 7 at the South Central Conference Meet.
The Clarke boys scored 46 points, as Albia won the conference championship with 156 points. In the girls competition, Davis County scored 147 points to win, while Clarke scored 67 points in sixth.
Clarke senior Gordon Witt won the conference title in the high jump competition, clearing 6-4. He bested the rest of the field by 6 inches. Junior Rich Wilkins finished fifth with a clearance of 5-6. Witt broke the school record in the high jump with a clearance of 6-5 Monday at Nodaway Valley.
Witt also took second place in the 110 meter high hurdles with his time of 16.18 seconds. Wilkins finished third in the 1,600 meters, running 5:00.76.
Sophomore Kooper Brimm finished second in the shot put with his throw of 52-7.50 and took fifth in the discus with a toss of 135-2.
The Clarke girls captured two event victories, highlighted by a season’s best time in the shuttle hurdle relay.
The team of Solanna Zimmerman, Maddi Heath, Bronwyn Miller and Bailey Zimmerman ran 1:08.47 to win by more than 4 seconds. That time ranks the Lady Indians third in Class 2A this season, and also puts them in contention for the school record, which is 1:08.09.
Bailey Zimmerman won Clarke’s other title, winning the 100 meter hurdles in 16.04. Solanna Zimmerman finished fourth in 17.76.
Amanda Kindred placed third in the shot put with a throw of 34-8.50 and fourth in the discus with her throw of 100-7.
Clarke finished third in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x800 and sprint medley relays.
Running on the 4x100 relay were Solanna Zimmerman, Miller, Heath and Bailey Zimmerman, clocking a 55.10.
The 4x200 relay team of Chynna Beydler, Heath, Hayley Gilbert and Sidney Marker ran 1:59.13. The 4x800 relay team of Taylor Jass, Sydney Sickels, Vanessa Bakley and Ariella May ran 11:46.31.
The sprint medley relay team of Miller, Beydler, Hayley Gilbert and Savannah Gilbert ran 2:06.35.
