LAMONI — The public invited to meet with Dr. Benjamin Carson Friday, June 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lamoni Community Center.

This event will be hosted by We The People Tea Party of Southern Iowa.

Dr. Carson grew up poor in Detroit, Mich., in a single-parent household. He eventually graduated from Yale University where he met his wife Candy.

After completing graduate studies at the University of Michigan School of Medicine, he performed residency at John Hopkins University Medical Center, became one of the worlds foremost pediatric surgeons and went on to direct pediatric neurosurgery at John Hopkins Children’s Center for 29 years

Among many of his accolades are the NAACP’s Spingarn Medal (their highest honor) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (highest national honor for a civilian). He has also sat on the board of directors of numerous major entities, and served in 2004 on President George Bush’s Council on Bioethics.

One of his eight books, “What We All Can Do to Save America’s Future,” was on the New York Times Best Seller list for 20 weeks.

Dr. Carson believes the United States needs a balanced budget amendment to prevent congress from deepening our more than 18 billion dollar deficit. He strongly supports state and local oversight of education standards, Health Savings Accounts that allows families and doctors to make health care decisions, protecting life from conception to death, the second amendment (right to bare arms), keeping religious faith strong in our communities, supporting Israel as the country’s strongest Middle East ally, and revamping the 74,000 page tax code to make it fairer, simpler and more equitable.

Dr. Carson said he is running for the Presidential nomination because, “This is a very difficult time for the United States of America. We face daunting challenges at home and unprecedented challenges abroad. It’s time for new leadership. It’s time for a fresh start.”
