John Corkrean Osceola

John P. Corkrean, 61, of Osceola died Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral mass was 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.  Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset, with family present 4 to 7 p.m.  Memorials may be directed to the athletic departments of Winterset Community Schools or Clarke Community Schools.  Online condolences may be left at www.Ochiltree.com.

John Patrick Corkrean, son of James E. and Shirley A. (Palmer) Corkrean, was born Jan. 1, 1954 in Winterset.  He graduated from Winterset Community High School and Simpson College.  John was a third grade teacher for the Winterset Community Schools for 33 years, retiring in 2009.

On Feb. 24, 2001, he was united in marriage to Sandra D. Luce at the First Christian Church in Osceola.  John and Sandra made their home in Osceola.

While growing up in Winterset, John had been active in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Winterset Optimist Club and Winterset Jaycees.  He became a member of First Christian Church in Osceola.

John is survived by his wife, Sandra of Osceola; his mother, Shirley Corkrean of Winterset; children, George Robert Paul (and his fiancé, Kelly) of Collins, Dory (John) Bakley of Osceola and Tahra (Don) Bedwell of Osceola; mother, Shirley Corkrean of Winterset; brothers, Steve (Nancy) Corkrean of Winterset and Terry Corkrean of Ankeny; sisters, Kathleen (Terry) Thomas of Ankeny, Colleen (Marc) Ewers of Des Moines, Patty (Mike) Denison of West Des Moines and Laurie (Dave) Adams of Ankeny; grandchildren, Turner, Mallory, Brenna, Vanessa, Hanna, Alivia, Marissa, Keifer and Reagan; and great-granddaughter Makaylynn.
 
He was preceded in death by his father James and brother Richard.
