Jeffory Charles Brandhorst, 61, of Osceola died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. J.R. Wheeler officiating. The family greeted friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the funeral home. Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola. Jeffory, son of Charles Frederick Brandhorst and Janice Adelaide (Paulson) Brandhorst, was born Jan. 25, 1955, in Grundy Center. Jeff received his education in Osceola, graduating from Clarke Community High School in 1973. He served his country in the United States Air Force and following his discharge he was united in marriage to Rhonda Redman on October 6, 1979, in Osceola.
Jeff began his working career at Paul Mueller Co. in Osceola after he returned from the service as a quality control supervisor. He later returned to school, attending Southwestern Community College where he earned his LPN degree in 1993 and his RN degree in 1994.
Jeff enjoyed his career in the medical field, working at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola and then as a nurse at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Jeff finished his career at home in Osceola at Clarke County Hospital where he served as the ambulance and emergency room director as well as the emergency response coordinator when he retired in 2012.
Over the years, Jeff was also a member of the Osceola Volunteer Fire Department from 1986-1994 where he held roles as lieutenant, captain and second assistant chief.
On May 17, 2003, Jeff married Penny Lynn Ketcham in Osceola.
Jeff is survived by his spouse Penny of Osceola; son Adam J. Brandhorst of San Luis Obispo, California; daughter Autumn (Luke) Ricker of Beaufort, South Carolina; son Alex Brandhorst of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister Sue (Mike) Crittenden of Fulton, Illinois; step-daughters, Dani (Kale) Anderson of Denver, Brittany (Jacob) Gibbs of Great Falls, Montana, and Ally Jo Workman of Elk Run Heights; grandchildren, Kaylee and Isaac Ricker, Jaden and Brody Anderson, Brooklyn, Ryder and Maddison Gibbs; nephews, Jeremy (Jennifer) Crittenden of Walford and Ryan (Sarah) Crittenden of O’Fallon, Missouri; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Judy Ketcham of Osceola as well as other relatives and many friends.
Jeff is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Walter and Esther Paulsen and John and Mary Brandhorst.
