Osceola City Elections are set for Tuesday, Nov. 7. Mayor Thomas Kedley is running uncontested, as is council member Dan Hooper of Osceola’s 2nd Ward. Incumbent Dennis Page will face-off against local business owner Matthew Stolll for an open At-Large seat on the council.
Dennis Page
Page began serving on the council in 2014 and has focused largely on nuisances the past year, paying particular attention to unkempt lawns. He ran on a platform of keeping things affordable for people in Osceola while reaching toward civic goals.
In support of that goal, during a recent meeting on the proposed recreation center, Page said, “I’m not voting to raise taxes, not for this.”
He also offered up some interesting ideas in terms of incentivizing membership in local fitness centers that worked with the rec center model. Ultimately, the facility plan presented that evening did not receive the council’s support. However, Page was one of four members who voted to continue pursuing the idea of building a center sometime in the future.
Matthew Stoll
Stoll owns Stoll Plumbing, Cooling and Heating in Osceola. He graduated from Clarke High School in 2008 and moved back to the area in 2012, having spent several years honing his skills in the plumbing, cooling and heating industry in the Des Moines area.
“I feel the need to serve my community, and I believe that running for City Council is the best way for me to do that,” said Stoll. “We don’t have any current council members that represent that my age group.”
The 26-year old is eager to get elected and work with the City Council and local officials to improve the financial and physical wellness of the town.
“If elected, I plan to listen and learn from my community,” he said, “to show transparency and to help inform the public as to what our current issues are and how, together, we can make Osceola the best that it can be.”
