Mary Allison

Mary Catherine Allison, daughter of John Joseph and Honorah Powell Winslow, was born Dec. 3, 1911, at Tyrone. She passed from this life on Nov. 3, 2007, at Sunrise at Ivy Ridge Assisted Living Center in Alpharetta, Ga. She was 95. Early in her life, Mary was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Georgetown. She moved with her family to Albia just before kindergarten. She attended Jefferson Schools and graduated from high school in 1930. Soon after her graduation, Mary began her working career at the Bates and Falvey Law Firm in Albia and later worked with the Travelers Insurance Company in Albia and Osceola when she met her future husband, Charles. They were married Oct. 10, 1940, in Osceola. Three sons blessed this union, Charles Henry Allison III, John Winslow Allison and James Joseph Allison. In later years, Mary worked at Osceola Leisure Manor in the administration office and then for the front office of the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. She was a very active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola. She lived in Osceola until April 8, 2006, when she moved to Georgia to be closer to family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles in 1988; brothers, John, Joseph and James Winslow; sisters, Margaret Goaley, Ellen Kelleher and Frances Hannam; and great-grandson, A.J. Rasmussen. She is survived by her son, Charles Henry Allison III and wife Carole of Gig Harbor, Wash.; son, John Winslow Allison of Los Angeles, Calif.; son, James Joseph Allison and wife Wendy of Roswell, Ga.; grandchildren, Courtney Allison Rasmussen and husband Jeff and their children Taylor and Joshua of Gig Harbor; Charles "Chuck" Allison IV and wife Denise of Gig Harbor; Amanda Allison of Los Angeles; Jacqueline Allison Torrence and husband Matt and their son Austin of Woodstock, Ga.; Joel Allison of Roswell; daughter-in-law, Beth McMath Allison of Los Angeles, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass was held Nov. 9, 2007, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola, the Rev. Thomas Dooley officiating. Prayers were by Doug Goaley and Greg Goaley, readings were by Jennifer Goaley-Sandusky and Kerry Goaley. Servers were Shirley Goaley and Joann Wilson. Gifts were by Courtney Rasmussen, Jackie Torrence and Denise Allison. Fred Diehl gave the eulogy. Music selections were “Ave Maria” and “Mary’s Song.” Musicians were Ann Diehl, Michele Evink and Ann March. Casket bearers were Joel Allison, Chuck Allison, Fred Diehl, Steve Hannam, Steve Lewis and Tim Goaley. Honorary casket bearers were David Goaley, Tom Goaley, Derek Gilna, Jeff Rasmussen, Mike Goaley, Matt Torrence, Al Andersen and Craig Robinson. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
