Bernice Elizabeth Saathoff

Bernice Elizabeth Saathoff, daughter of August Adolphus Nelson and Myrtle Appelt Nelson, was born Feb. 25, 1923, on the family farm near Fenton and passed from this life Nov. 27, 2007, at Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 84. Bernice graduated from Ringsted High School in 1941. In October of 1945 she married Edwin Louis Moll who passed away in 1964. She later married John Raymond Saathoff on Dec. 15, 1967, in Martensdale. Bernice worked as a subscription processor for Look Magazine for many years and also volunteered much of her time as the church secretary at St. Paul and Immanuel Lutheran Church. Bernice and John have lived in Osceola since 1984 and lived near St. Marys prior to that time. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Guild and the Woodburn American Legion Auxiliary. Bernice enjoyed sewing and actually made many of her children's clothes through the years. She also enjoyed spending time knitting and crocheting and was a member of the Nifty Needles Club. Bernice loved to travel to Arkansas and Kentucky and enjoyed antiquing along the way. Relatives who preceded Bernice in death were her parents and a daughter, DuElla Gooding. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, John Saathoff of Osceola; sons, Dale Moll and wife Roxie of Mena, Ark., Larry Moll and wife Mary Jo of Springfield, Mo., and Wally Moll of Des Moines; daughter, Deborah East and husband Paul of Winchester, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. Services were Dec. 1, 2007, at Kale Funeral Home with CH (Col) Stephen Heetland officiating. Organist Kathie Crandall accompanied vocalist Ruth Ellis. Musical selections were “In The Cross of Christ I Glory,” “Just As I Am” and “When I Survey The Wondrous Cross.” Bernice was cremated following services and interment of the cremains will be at a later date in the Wallace Cemetery in Wick. Memorial contributions may be made to her family.
