Cleo Juanita Garrison, daughter of Juddson J. Kane and Leila Carlotta (Ford) Kane, was born May 18, 1908, near Hopeville in Doyle Township in Clarke County. She passed from this life April 4, 2008, at the Sunny View Nursing Home in Trenton, Mo. She was 99. Cleo attended country school in Doyle Township through eighth grade and attended Murray High School. She married John "Jack" Farrell Garrison on Aug. 27, 1934, at the Methodist parsonage in Osceola. Three sons blessed this union, Gene LaVerne, John Phillip and Marvin Lee. Cleo worked as a housewife; she had worked as a caregiver and housekeeper. She was a correspondent for the Osceola Sentinel and Tribune. She pumped and sold gas in the Roaring '20s at 10 cents a gallon. She enjoyed embroidering, knitting and crocheting. She collected salt and pepper shakers, napkins, dolls and teddy bears. She was a member of Murray American Legion Auxiliary No. 405 and had served as their Chaplain. She was a member of the Murray Senior Citizens Club and had served as the secretary. She was a member of Church Circle No. 1 and member of the Murray Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Veda Smith, Wanda Craft, Ruby and Maxine in infancy; brothers, Cecil and J.J. in infancy; son, Gene Laverne; grandson, Bradley Garrison and great-grandson, Joshua Ray Garrison. She leaves to cherish her memory son, John Phillip Garrison and wife Anna Lou of Humphreys, Mo.; son, Marvin Garrison and wife Vickie of Laverne, Okla.; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held April 8, 2008, at Murray Church of Christ in Murray, Pastor Brian McCracken officiating. Pianist Diane Nish accompanied vocalist Brian McCracken singing "Shall We Gather at the River" and "It Is No Secret, What God Can Do." Casket bearers were Charles Hawkins, James Hines, Gene Garrison, Tim Milner and Phillip Garrison. Honorary casket bearers were Gilbert Leeps and Ed Leeps. Interment was in Murray Cemetery in Murray. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
