Ruby Davis

Ruby I. Davis, 87 of Thayer, passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at the Afton Care Center in Afton. Services were held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiated. Burial will be in the Lorimor Cemetery at a later date. Cremation was done on Thursday evening. Memorials are to the Afton Care Center. Ruby Irene Davis, was born Sept. 30, 1921, at Hopeville, to Florence Geneve (Nobles) and Clyde LeRoy German. She graduated from Ellston High School in 1940 and earned her teaching certificate in 1945 from Simpson College. On July 26, 1944, Ruby was united in marriage to Carl C. Davis in Osceola. After marriage, Ruby taught country school for six years at the Vern Needham School and the Frog Pond School. She primarily worked as a homemaker. They lived in Ellston, Afton and Thayer, moving to the home south of Thayer in 1958. Ruby entered the Afton Care Center in March of 2007. She served on the Board of Elections in Pleasant Township for approximately 25 years. Survivors include her husband, Carl Davis of Thayer; three daughters: Jean Ann Davis of Raleigh, N.C.; Sheri (husband Jim) Shannon of Arispe; Janelle (husband Mark) Baker of Diagonal; one son: Jerry (wife Marlene) Davis of Fontanelle; one sister: Donella (husband Lee) Creveling of Ellston; one brother in-law: Jack Wilkey of Ellston; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Marilyn Wilkey and her grandson, Jason Shannon.
