Every year Clarke Community High School ag instructor Brandi Boyd offers a Leadership and Development class. In this class students write a resume, go to a mock interview, learn about their strengths, and most importantly, create a bond with students they may not normally interact with.
Every class is required to do one community service project as a class. This year one class decided to pass out May Day baskets to the local nursing home. Boyd’s third hour class created and passed out May Day baskets at the Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center.
Earlier that week they spent a class period making May Day baskets and filling them with different goodies. Certain students were designated certain duties. One student had to call out there and ask if they could put their plan into action. They also had to know what kinds of food the residents could have and how many couldn’t have solid food.
“This was so much fun,” said junior Randi Browne, “The best part was talking to the people and watching their faces light up when we handed them a basket.”
Many students walked away feeling as though they received more than they gave. A lot of the students got to interact and talk to some residents.
