Softball team wins Iowa Games crown

A 14 and under softball team made up of local players recently won the Iowa Games with a 4-1 record.

The Coyote Fast Pitch team went 1-1 in pool play, defeating Denison and losing to Fort Dodge, and went a perfect 3-0 in the championship tournament to strike gold.

In the tournament, the Coyote squad defeated Sergeant Bluff, 6-3, Charter Oak-Ute, 8-2, and scored a 5-2 win over Mason City in the championship game.

In the win over Sergeant Bluff, Danielle McIntosh of Osceola was the winning pitcher and also hammered a three-run home run. In the victory over CO-U, Carley Nekvinda of Corydon was the winning pitcher. Caitlin Weeks, who plays ball for Interstate 35, was the winning pitcher in the championship game. McIntosh had two RBIs in the win, while Clarke teammates Kimber Gibbs and Ashley Gibbs drove in one run each.
