Dale Eugene Dykes, 62, of Leon died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home, 103 NE Mill St., in Leon with the Rev. Clegguart Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Leon Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established by the family.
Dale Dykes, son of Edward Dale and Donna RaeJean (Porter) Dykes, was born Jan. 30, 1953, in Leon.
On June 12, 1970, Dale married Sally Ann Downard in Van Wert. They lived four years in Van Wert and then made their home in Leon.
Through the years, Dale held several different jobs. He worked for Havens and Johnston Plumbing in Leon, Kayot in Indianola, the maintenance department of Decatur County Hospital and as an appliance repairman for Iowa Southern Utilities. In 1980, Dale and Sally became part owners of North Lumber and Home Center in Leon and full owners in 1984. In 2002, Dale started a second lumberyard in Lamoni, Southern Iowa Building Center. His son, Tony, was manager. Several years ago, Dale started farming full time and his son, Chris, became manager of North Lumber and Home Center. Dale was a member of the Professional Walleye Trail for several years.
Dale is survived by his wife Sally of Leon; sons, Chris Dykes and Melanie Hamaker of Weldon and Tony and Erin Dykes of Garden Grove; grandchildren, Luke Simmerman, Kyle Sherman, Gideon Porter, Mara Dykes, Nash Dykes, River Hamaker and Mesa Dykes; mother Donna Fulton of Osceola; brother Chuck and Vickie Dykes of Van Wert; sister Diana and Maurice Dean of Osceola; sister-in-law Betty Downard of Osceola; six nieces; one nephew; his beloved dogs, Red and Reba; other family members and many friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his father; his in-laws, Conda Downard and Bill and Darlene Tiedje and his brother-in-law, Roger Downard.
