Donald Hembry Leon

Donald Clyde Hembry, 86, of Leon died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at his home.

Memorial services were held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 103 N.E. Mill St., in Leon with the Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial was in Leon Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Donald Clyde Hembry, son of Ira Clyde and Hazel Daisy (Brown) Hembry, was born May 18, 1929, in Decatur County. Don grew up in Decatur County and attended Terra Haute Country School and Leon High School with the class of 1947.

On Dec. 29, 1949, Don married Glendean Loretta McGauhey in Leon. The family farmed at different locations over the years, but all were in Decatur County. In 1991, when Don retired from farming, he and Glendean moved into Leon where they lived for 25 years. Don worked at SIRWA for 10 years. The past five years they lived in the housing community on the north edge of Leon.

While his children were young, Don was a 4-H leader. He was a member of Leon Country Club.

Don is survived by his wife Glendean Hembry of Leon; children, Mike (Kathy) Hembry of Newton, Deena Halstead (Bill Hall) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Donnie (Jennifer) Hembry of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren, Shawn Halstead, Laura Seiss, James Hembry, Mark Hembry, Robert Hembry and Crystal Hembry; great-grandchildren, Haley, Brooke, Zoey, Harlow, Isla and Clayton; sisters, Joanne (Earl) Hanthorn of Leon and Carol (Leo) Engelbrecht of Bondurant; sisters-in-law, Betty (Don) Mullins of Osceola, Mary Hembry of Osceola and Gwen McClure of Leon; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marybelle (Ralph) Hill and brother Myron Hembry.
