Wishon sets blocked shot mark

Records are made to be broken.

Some records are made to be broken by family.

That’s the case when it comes to blocked shots at Clarke, as Indian junior Grant Wishon surpassed not only the school record for blocked shots in a single season, but blocked shots for a career.

Wishon ranked sixth in the state all classes with 88 blocked shots this year, eclipsing the Clarke school record of 74 set in 1986-87 by Eric Muller.

With 165 blocked shots for his career to date, Wishon has already moved past Muller’s career record of 99 from 1985-87.

Muller also holds the single-game record for blocked shots with 11, which Wishon just missed this year with 10 against Centerville on Jan. 26.

That not only makes Wishon the premier shot blocker in Clarke school history, but in his family.

Wishon, the son of Randy and Ronda Wishon, is Muller’s nephew. Muller is the brother of Ronda Wishon.

“Eric always said if and when someone broke his records, it’d be cool if it was his nephew,” Ronda Wishon said.

Wishon needs just 15 blocks next year to climb into the top 50 on the state’s all-time career blocked shots list.

If he can match his season total off 88 blocked shots from this year, he will finish 19th on Iowa’s all-time career list.
