Dana Stonehocker, 61, of Thayer died Sunday, April 10, 2016, at her home.
Celebration of life memorial services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs officiated. Interment will be private. Family had a lunch at Murray Community Center in Murray following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ronald McDonald House. Dana Gae (Johnson) Stonehocker, daughter of Duane Johnson and Alice (McCafferty) Johnson, was born March 9, 1955, in Osceola. She was educated at Murray High School and graduated with the class of 1973. Dana furthered her education at University of Iowa.
On Nov. 20, 1976, Dana married David L. Stonehocker in Des Moines. Together they settled in Thayer before moving to a farm south of Thayer in 1989. Dana worked for 13 years at Bunn-O-Matic, leaving there to attend Southwestern Community College for her nursing degree. She then worked 18 years as a registered nurse with Madison County Health Care Systems from where she retired in 2011.
Dana was a member of Murray Church of Christ and the Iowa Nurses Association.
Dana is survived by her husband Dave; mother Alice Johnson of Murray; brothers, Greg (Nancy) Johnson of Ankeny and Kevin (Claudia) Johnson of Cazenovia, New York, and sister Gloria (Tom) Maffett of Lorimor.
Dana was preceded in death by her father Duane Johnson, father-in-law Lester Stonehocker, brother-in-law Charles Stonehocker and sister-in-law Rosalie (Stonehocker) Larsen.
