Richard Dale Beeman, 92, of Osceola died Monday, July 25, 2016, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola.
Services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola, with the Rev. Chuck DeVos officiating. Visitation with family present was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment followed in Maple Hill Cemetery. Richard Dale Beeman, son of Pearl Beeman and Edith (Spencer) Beeman, was born July 12, 1924, in Osceola. Dick attended school through the middle of his senior year when he dropped out to enlist in the U.S. Army. He served in France and Europe during World War II and was honorably discharged Oct. 25, 1945.
On Aug. 25, 1946, Dick married Mary Virgene Stubbs in Osceola. Dick was a salesman and owned several businesses in Osceola including Beeman Sundries, Beeman Cafeteria, Osceola Dairy Queen and a bicycle repair and rental shop.
Dick was very active in his community serving on the city council for many years. He founded the Clarke County Arts Council. He helped start the courtyard beautification project and worked toward the community having an arts and recreation center. He was a member of the Davis-Pence American Legion Post No. 69 in Osceola. Dick sang with the Father Singers and they performed at the Iowa State Fair five years in a row.
Dick is survived by his wife Mary of Osceola; son Bruce (Dixie) Beeman of Kansas City, Missouri; daughters, Ginny (Roger) Kennedy of Emporia, Kansas, and Conda (Gary) Cook of Osceola; grandchildren, Terry Beeman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shann Beeman of Los Angeles, California, Jason Beeman of Los Angeles, California, Hannah Beeman of Kansas City, Missouri, Shea Kennedy of Emporia, Kansas, Justin (Liz) Kennedy of Cedar Rapids, Jeremy (Mandy Sebastian) Cook of Davenport and Kiley (Cheyenne) Cook of Weldon; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Lily, Hunter, Tristen, Zella, Lincoln, Emily, Gracie Rose, Mayson and Willow; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wendell, Paul and Robert and sister Helen.
