On Oct. 9, Osceola Big Chief FFA members enjoyed southern Iowa weather as they practiced the last line of the FFA Motto - “Living to Serve.” A tip from past FFA member Heather Stearns paved the way for a new addition to our chapter’s community service projects – feed the farmer.
Students collaborated with the local FFA alumni to create snack bags for local farmers as they bring in the year’s harvest. FFA officer Hannah Pollard worked with United Farmers Co-op in Osceola to find a day for the group to volunteer. Snack bags included kettle corn, crackers, granola bars, and of course, the staple of most farmer’s diets during harvest season, a candy bar and pop or water.
At 10:30 a.m., students met to pop fresh kettle corn and complete last minute preparations on the 50 snack bags. Shortly before noon, members turned the corner toward United Farmer’s Co-op and were greeted by a line of trucks waiting to unload. Members were excited to be able to provide a small token of appreciation for all the things our local farmers do for our community.
