Murray remains perfect

Bluegrass Tournament this week

MORAVIA — Murray’s boys basketball team continued along the winning way in their only game last week.

The Mustangs rolled to a road win at Moravia on Friday, 63-45.

Murray heads into the Bluegrass Conference Tournament this week a perfect 13-0.

The Class 1A eighth-ranked Mustangs hosted Moravia Tuesday in the quarterfinals. If Murray won, they would advance to the semifinals Thursday against the winner of Ankeny Christian and Twin Cedars in a game played at Melcher-Dallas.

The final is set for Saturday at Melcher-Dallas.

Class 1A third-ranked Grand View Christian, Seymour, Lamoni and Mormon Trail are on the other side of the bracket.

Murray raced out to a 23-16 lead after one quarter and 39-24 edge at halftime.

Three Mustangs reached double figures offensively to lead the charge. Thane Simmons had 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, along with nine rebounds. Kenny Boles also poured in 16 points, along with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Bryce Keller scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go with seven rebounds and seven assists. Reece Held and Dustin Teas added six points each.
