The local beekeeping club has a new name, along with a new meeting place and time. Beginning beekeeping classes with the Southern Iowa Hive Handlers bee club will be held at the Clarke County Fairgrounds exhibit building 7 p.m. Thursday nights, Feb. 9 through March 30. The classes will provide an in-depth look at how to care for and maintain honeybee hives for beginners through experienced bee keepers. The club is sponsored by the Clarke County Conservation Board, Friends of Clarke County Conservation, and the Clarke County Fair Board. While classes are free, an $8 handbook, “First Lessons in Beekeeping” by Keith S. Delaplane, can be purchased for $8 at meeting or by contacting Scott Kent (641-342-3960).
