Raymond Keith Nelson, son of Bert William Nelson and Mabel Ann (Hamm) Nelson, was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Lorimor, and passed from this life Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola at 89 years of age.

Raymond received his education in Truro High School, graduating in 1945. Raymond served his country as a medical technician with the United States Army from 1946 to 1947, attaining the rank of TEC 5.

He was united in marriage to Louise Thomas on April 19, 1957, at Grand River United Methodist Church, and two children, Keith and Brian, blessed this union.

Raymond enjoyed the outdoors and loved his work as a lifetime farmer. He was a charter member of the Truro Lions Club, served as a trustee for Ohio Township and was a member of Madison Chapel Church. Raymond also enjoyed tractors and had his father’s first tractor newly purchased just after Raymond left the service.

Those relatives who preceded Raymond in death were his parents; brother Wayne Nelson; brother-in-law Don Green; niece Patricia Davidson; nephew Mark Green and infant nephew Rodney Lee Green.

Raymond leaves to cherish his memory his wife Louise Nelson; sons, Keith Nelson of Truro and Brian (Shelley) Nelson of New Virginia; daughter-in-law Becky Nelson of Urbandale; sister Betty Ann Green of Osceola; sister-in-law Isabel Nelson of Truro; grandchildren, Abbie (fiancé Greg Saxton) Nelson of Norwalk, Alexis (Matt) Owens of Red Oak, Sierra Nelson of New Virginia, Jessica Nelson of Gainsville, Florida, and Chad Nelson of Truro; great-grandchildren, Allie Owens and Dallas Owens; as well as other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday Sept. 1, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola with Rev. Kenneth Briggs officiating. The family greeted friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at the funeral home. Interment followed in Ebenezer Cemetery.
