CRESTON – Over the weekend, MillerCoors donated 25,000 cans of water to southern Iowa residents across eight counties, including to the city of Creston, impacted by the boil order issued due to a faulty filtration system. The company partnered with their local distributor, Southwest Distributing to directly deliver cans to area businesses. The order is due to an increased chance of water containing disease-causing organisms. While the City of Creston was recently released from the Drinking Water Advisory, Southern Iowa Rural Water Association (SIRWA) reports that surrounding communities are still under the boil order.
“Ensuring that our communities are safe and thriving is a priority at MillerCoors,” said Karina Diehl, MillerCoors Senior Director for National Community Affairs. “Access to clean water is essential and MillerCoors hopes its donation will provide relief to the Creston community and the surrounding counties and ensure the health and safety of everyone affected by the boil order.”
The water cans were shipped from the MillerCoors brewery in Shenandoah, Va. and arrived to Southwest Distributing in Creston on Friday afternoon. In total, MillerCoors donated 10 pallets of 104 cases per pallet. Each case is a 12 pack filled with 12 ounces of water in each can.
MillerCoors has an on-going commitment to water can donations to communities in crisis. MillerCoors launched its water program last summer in partnership with Broomfield, Colo.-based Ball, which together have committed to providing more than 2 million cans to the Red Cross to help communities affected by disasters over the next two years. The water is canned at the MillerCoors brewery in Trenton, Ohio, and stored in its Shenandoah, Va., brewery. Graphic Packaging International donated the 12-pack cartons in which the cans are packaged.
