Leland George

Leland Richard George, 74, from West Chicago, Illinois, passed from this life Tuesday, April 30, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born May 27, 1944, in Osceola to Carl Richard and Ardetta Maurine George.

Lee grew up in Osceola on their farm. He graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1963, and moved to Chicago, where he attended DeVry Institute. He married Margaret E. White in August of 1965. To this union, three daughters were born, Sheri Lynn, Vicki Marie and Becky Ann.

Lee began his concrete business in the early 1970s, and later switched to asphalt paving and excavating. In the mid-1990s, he began constructing commercial buildings, which he managed. He was also involved in numerous other business ventures.

Some of his hobbies included fishing, golfing, gardening and traveling. He also enjoyed going to tractor pulls, rodeos, riding his lawnmower and attending state fairs.

He is survived by his sisters, Suzanne (Robert) Legge of San Tan Valley, Arizona, and Betty Hembry of Osceola; his three daughters, Sheri of Chandler of Arizona, Vicki (Agustin) of Bartlett, Illinois, and Becky of Pleasant Grove, Utah; his six grandchildren, Jonathan, Adam, Amanda, Ashley, Joshua and Robert; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts and uncles and a nephew.

Family and friends gathered to remember his wonderful life at a funeral Saturday, May 4, at Faith Baptist Church in Winfield, Illinois.
