Jeannette Ione Scott

Jeannette Ione Scott, daughter of Floyd Dale Schlapia and Maralyn Rose McMath Schlapia was born December 15, 1947 in Creston, Iowa and passed from this life Friday, September 13, 2019 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola at 71 years of age.

Jeannette received her education in Mt. Ayr  graduating from Mt. Ayr High School as valedictorian of  her class in 1966. She furthered her education attending nurses training in Independence, Missouri becoming a RN in 1969.

She was united in marriage to David Verne Scott on October 7, 1967 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa at the First Baptist Church and two sons, Derek and Deron blessed this union.

Jeannette began her nursing career at the Ringgold County Hospital while David was in the military. After his discharge, they located in Marion, Iowa for employment. Their two sons were born there and before school age the family moved to Afton, Iowa where they purchased Sheets Drug, there she helped part-time and later had a flower shop. She returned to nursing and worked at the Afton Care Center and later became Director of Nursing. After 14 years in Afton, the Scott family moved to the Osceola Community and she was employed by Clarke County Homemakers, Clarke Elementary School as school nurse, Clarke County Public Health and Osceola Vision Center before her retirement in 2009.

Jeannette has been a long time member of the LifePoint Assembly of God Church in Osceola where she was involved playing keyboard , being nursery volunteer and prayer team member. She was also a member of Mr. Ayr American Legion Auxiliary and the Clarke County Hospital Auxiliary.

An avid traveler, Jeannette and husband David have enjoyed traveling to all 99 counties in the State of Iowa. This feat took them nearly three years as David was still working at that time. She also loved to be outdoors gardening and doing her yardwork. Reading mysteries and the Bible daily as well as find a word puzzles were some of her other enjoyments.

Those relatives who preceded Jeannette in death were her father, Floyd Dale Schlapia, mother, Maralyn Rose Schlapia, father-in-law, Gerald Scott, mother-in-law, Lois Scott and her sister-in-law, Diana Scott.

Jeannette leaves to cherish her memory; husband, David Scott of Osceola, IA, sons, Derek Scott of Des Moines, IA and Deron (Liline) Scott of Waukee, IA; sister, Meredith (Duane) Dredge of Mt. Ayr, IA; brother, Roger (Betty) Schlapia of Bellevue, NE; sister-in-law, Jan (Ed) Johnston of Diagonal, IA, sister-in-law, Joyce (Dave) Sweeney of Lenox, IA as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

Services will be held at LifePoint Church, Wednesday September 25, 2019 at 10:30 am with Pastor Chuck DeVos officiating.

Visitation will open after 10:00 A.M.Tuesday, September 24, 2019 and  the family will greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Kale Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery
