Clarke results mixed at South Central Conference meet

Clarke hosted the South Central Conference meet last Tuesday, racing at East Lake Park.

Despite the home advantage, the Indians were unable to grab first in either race, finishing seventh as a team in the boys race with 189 points. The Lady Indians did not score in the girls race.

Despite not scoring, the Lady Indians had an 11th place finish from Katie Donaldson. The junior ran a time of 23:37.

The next across the line for Clarke was Destiny Ashby in 28th with a time of 26:17. Rebecca Van Buren (30:42) was 58th and Andrea Palomero (36:09) was 66th.

For the Clarke boys, Diego Cavanzon a time of 22:05 for 31st place. Calhoun Lundquist was exactly a minute behind him at 23:05 in 36th place.

Richie Donaldson was 38th at 23:16 and Aydan Dinham was 41st at 24:09.

Davis County was the team winner for the girls race and Albia was the winner in the boys race. Knoxville’s Norah Pearson (21:47) was the fastest girl and Kenny Cronin of Davis County (18:04) was the fastest boy.

Clarke runs in the Class 1A state qualifier in Mount Ayr Thursday night at 7 p.m.

I-35 runs in Panora

PANORA – Interstate 35 raced the West Central Activities Conference meet in Panora last Thursday, posting modest results as it heads into state qualifying meets this week,

The Roadrunner girls did not score as a team, but had a top-10 finisher in Abbi Goering.

Goering’s time of 21:42 earned her a 10th place finish in a field of 98. Teammate Lauren Bussanmas was 24th, running a 23:38 and Josephine Wearmouth was 52nd with a time of 25:16.

The girls team winner was Van Meter with a score of 46. ACGC’s Katie Crawford was first overall with a time of 19:50.

For the boys, the Roadrunners had an eighth place finish as a team with a score of 259.

The leader of the I-35 boys was Mason Maiers with a time of 19:19 for 33rd. Wyatt Fitzgerald was 37th with a time of 19:31.

The Roadrunner boys continued to pack run, placing 62nd (Cody Parish), 63rd (Carson Allen) and 64th (Seth Dickinson). Parish and Allen both ran a 21:38 and Dickinson wan a 22:08.

Interstate 35 will next run in Mount Ayr for the Class 1A state qualifier Thursday at 5 p.m.

CD strong at POI

CORYDON – Central Decatur had a strong showing at the Pride of Iowa meet last Tuesday, with the boys placing second as a team (74 points) and the girls finishing third (83 points) as a team.

The Cardinals were led by strong showing from William Gillis in the boys race, running a 17:37. He was joined by Tyson McDole in the top-10, who placed eighth with a time of 17:59. Tate Swartz was 11th at 18:36.

CD’s girls team was led by Kaydee Swartz, who ran a 23:07 for eighth fastest. Harrisen Bevan nearly joined her in the top-10, but was a few seconds behind the cut for 12th at 23:44.

Josh Baudler and Sophia Broers of Nodaway Valley won the boys and girls individual races, respectively. Nodaway Valley swept the titles for both sides, winning with 27 points on the boys side and 24 points on the girls side.

Central Decatur will next run in the Class 2A state qualifier in Panora. The meet will take place Thursday at 5 p.m.
