Area cross country roundup: Gillis breaks school record, Cardinals continue hot start

PLEASANTVILLE – Central Decatur had another strong showing Monday at Pleasantville’s Trojan Invite, taking a first-place boys team finish and second-place girls team finish.

Will Gillis’ second-place finish at 16:02 broke a 22-year school record formerly held by Jamie Stanford. Tyson McDole broke a personal record, coming in third place with a 17:35. Vincent Carcamo also broke a personal record for a seventh-place finish (17:59).

Clarke’s Calhoun Lundquist finished in ninth place with an 18:06. Ethan Domina placed just behind Lundquist, coming in 11th place after running an 18:17.

For the girls, Central Decatur scored 66 points for second place, just behind PCM’s 52 points.

Harrisen Bevan and Hadley Bell finished back-to-back for seventh and eighth place at 21:57. Aniston Jones rounded out the top three scorers by running a 22:14 for 12th place.

Clarke’s Katie Donaldson finished in 15th place after running a 22:28. Rebecca Van Buren took 39th place for 25:58.

Central Decatur meet

LEON – Central Decatur had a strong showing at its home meet taking first on the boys side and third on the girls side while Clarke had strong individual showings Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The boys group totaled 34 points, ahead of second-place finisher Southeast Warren’s 78 points.

Gillis came in second place, running a 16:48, just behind Southeast Warren’s Randy Jimenez. McDole (17:54) Tate Swartz (18:04) finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth places.

Clarke’s Domina cracked the top 10 with an 18:40. Lundquist took 12th place for the Indians after running a 19:07.

Central Decatur’s girls took a third-place finish with 79 points. Chariton took first place with 43 points.

Bevan was the top runner for the Cardinals, finishing in 12th place with a 22:39. Aniston Jones was close behind in 13th place after running a 22:58. Kaydee Swartz (24:06) and Jamie Oesch (24:34) rounded out the group with 19th and 20th place finishes.

Clarke’s Donaldson took a top-five finish, coming in fifth place with a 21:58. Van Buren was the other Lady Indian to run, coming in 34th with a 26:28.
