Carol Sue Clemens, daughter of Virgil Powell and Doris Marie Chumbley Powell was born December 28, 1937 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center at 82 years of age.
Sue received her education in the country schools of Clarke County and graduated from Osceola High School.
She was united in marriage to Grant Ulysses Smart in 1956 in Indianola, Iowa and three children, Kelly, Kirby and Kayla blessed this union. Following Grant’s passing at an early age, Sue was later united in marriage to Bob Clemens in Idaho.
Following her marriage to Bob, Sue maintained a successful real estate office in Boise, Idaho for 35 years. She returned to the Woodburn area in the early 2000’s to care for her parents and has wintered in Arizona for many years.
If Sue was not contentedly reading the many current articles or her favorite books, she would surely be found attending any number of local dance events. There seem to be no melody or rhythm that Sue could not find in her heart and convert into her graceful strides. In her later years in life, Sue found an interest in politics, of which you could find on her Facebook wall. Her family has known her to be a wonderful cook, and was known for her sweet potatoes, homemade noodles, and pies that were second to none. For a puzzled child, her wisdom was just a phone call away. Most of all, family was so important to Sue and she will be remembered as the best Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, and friend.
Those relatives who preceded Sue in death were her parents; Virgil and Doris Marie Powell; husband Grant Ulysses Smart; grandson, Jesse Johnston and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sue leaves to cherish her memory; son, Kelly Smart of Woodburn, IA, son, Kirby Clemens of Tucson, AZ, daughter, Kayla (Greg Schrantz) Smart of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter, Kelly Jo (Richard) Johnston of Chariton, IA, grandson, Michael Schrantz, granddaughter, Brigitte (Eric) Lemister of Tucson, AZ, grandson, Kirby Schrantz of Tucson, AZ, Great-Grandchild, Logan Johnston of New Virginia, IA, Great-Grandchild, Tiffany Johnston of Prairie City, IA, Great-Grandchild, Macy Johnston of Chariton, IA, Great-Grandchild, Shelby Johnston of Chariton, IA, cousin, cousins, Lucille Reynolds of Osceola, IA, Donna (John) Carson of Woodburn, IA and Sara Carson of Woodburn, IA. as well as many other relatives and friends.
