Osceola City Council approved scheduling for upcoming, annual holiday events during its meeting held Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Council approved trunk-or-treat from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29. Sponsored by Osceola Chamber and Main Street, children in fourth grade and younger are invited to walk around the square for treats. For businesses interested in participating, contact the Chamber Main Street at 342-4200.
In a related matter, council scheduled trick-or-treating for the entire town from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. also on Oct. 29.
Council approved to schedule Holiday Brilliance on Saturday, Nov. 27. The lighted parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Santa Claus is scheduled to be at the band shell at 5 p.m.
The annual Wine Walk will be held from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5. Tickets are available from the Chamber Main Street. Only 300 tickets will be available for the event.
Council approved a resolution in support of the town’s Main Street Program.
“As a city we will continue to support the program,” said Osceola City Administrator Ty Wheeler. The city contributes $30,000 a year to the program.
Council also approved to begin acquiring the property at 217 E. Washington up to $11,500. Wheeler said the property has been considered a nuisance. The future of the lot has not been determined.
A solid waste reduction plan was approved by council. Osceola is part of the South Central Iowa Landfill Agency. The plan includes the city’s efforts for solid-waste reduction and recycling goals.
