Clarke Elementary Student Lighthouse Council donates time to Clarke County Animal Shelter

The Clarke Elementary Student Lighthouse Council has 13 student members from third through sixth grade. They meet twice a month and do a monthly service project. April’s service project is donating time to the Clarke County Animal Shelter. The group will be exercising the dogs by playing with them and walking them. They will be inside playing with the cats as well.

“We’ll just get the animals out of their cages and let them have some human interaction,” said Brittany Vidales Lighthouse Adviser.

The students will be at the animal shelter April 21 and 24.

The Student Lighthouse Council also runs the school store three days a week, collects the elementary’s recycling monthly, read announcements every morning, help out as office assistants and restock the teachers lounge vending machine weekly with candy they purchase from Hy-Vee. They’ve purchased new books for the library, purchase golden apples for retiring teachers, run assemblies such as the annual Veteran’s Day assembly and walk in the Homecoming parade.
