The Osceola Volunteer Fire Department along with the Van Wert and New Virginia Fire Departments trained with a burn trailer from the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau Saturday out back of the Osceola City Hall/Fire Station.
“We can request it and instructors at no cost,” said Byron Jimmerson, OVFD Chief. “We typically try to request once a year. It has several scenarios from basement fires, to transitional attack, fire roll over, and more.”
The trailer uses theater smoke and propane to create realistic fire scenarios. Which creates real scenarios with a safety aspect for the firefighters in training. The instructor has a remote that can “kill” the fire at anytime if a problem arises. Instructors have control of the props to intensify fire and lessen the fire depending on how the firefighters are attacking the fire.
Whenever Osceola hosts State training assets they are open to all area departments.
