Splash pad to be put to the test

Thursday Night in the Park July 29 will let children and families test out the idea of having a splash pad in town.

The July 29 Thursday Night in the Park is Public Safety Night. Elizabeth Simpson is working with the Healthy Hometowns Initiative by Wellmark. The big reason for the night is to see if community members, kids and families would be interested in a splash pad being in Osceola.

“How do we know that people would even bring their kids to something like this since we have a great aquatic center in Osceola,” said Simpson. “Once of the things that was suggested by Wellmark was that they held an event where the fire trucks were spraying water all over the street and the kids were playing in the water.”

This train of thought brought the group to see how that event could both get the buzz going about a splash pad and honor local law enforcement. EMA, police, sheriff, mental health officials and hospital personell will be there. The firetruck will be spraying water on the street for kids to play in and a food truck will be on the square as well.

“We invite you to bring your family out to enjoy it,” said Simpson.
