One Clarke Middle School Band member auditioned and was accepted into the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association (SCIBA) Honor Bands.
Eighth grade student Emily Glenn auditioned on trumpet and earned a place in the SCIBA White Band. For her audition, she had to memorize nine scales and perform two challenging musical selections for two judges. She prepared for her audition during her band lessons with Clarke 7-8 Band Director, Christie Stortenbecker. This year, the White Band was under the direction of Josh Deutmeyer from Waukee South Middle School. The White Band was composed of a combination of eighth grade students who auditioned to earn their place, as well as seventh grade students who were nominated by their band directors. The SCIBA Honor Band Festival was held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Ankeny Centennial High School in Ankeny, Iowa. Students from 53 schools located in the south central portion of Iowa rehearsed together during the afternoon and presented a concert for the public in the evening. Each of the three honor bands had approximately 100 participants.
