Jerry Dene Davis, son of Glen and Willene (Chew) Davis was born February 10, 1947 in Osceola, Iowa, and passed from this life Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021 at Clarke County Hospital at 73 years of age.
Jerry received his education in Murray, Iowa, where he first attended country school and thengraduated from Murray High School in 1965. He was united in marriage to Ingrid Ann Fear onJuly 24, 1966 and three children, Micheal, Melissa, and Melanie blessed this union. Jerry and Ingrid celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary this past summer.
After graduating high school Jerry began working for the Iowa DOT as a materials inspector. He worked for the DOT for 43 years before retiring in 2009. He loved working with Dick Christensen, and made many lifelong friendships during his career. Jerry also farmed the family farm. He enjoyed working alongside his neighbor and great friend, Randy Dunfee. He loved spending time farming and raising cattle and took great pride in how his crops and farm looked.
His hobbies included coon hunting and attending mule shows with his young family. He won the National High Point Mule championship in 1980, with his mule Kate. He later became interested in Belgian and Percheron horses that he showed and worked with on the farm. Jerry’s latest passion was attending and participating in cattledog trials with his beloved border collies. He won the 2011 National Cattle Dog Nursery title with his favorite dog, Rita. He made many special friends at the dog trials and enjoyed getting to participate in them with his son, Micheal.
Jerry was very successful with all the animals he trained or worked with. Jerry cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He would always go above and beyond to make them feel special and loved. He relished talking to them on the phone, showing them how to do things on the farm, and of course teasing and laughing with them. He always made sure that his children and grandchildren always had everything they needed and then some.
He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. His personality was one of a kind. His smile was genuine and contagious. He made friends everywhere he went.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ingrid and his parents Glen and Willene Davis.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memory; son, Micheal Davis of Murray, IA, daughter, Missy (Chad) Martin of Moravia, IA, daughter, Melanie (Bob) Eich of Omaha, NE. Grandchildren, Andrew Davis of Murry, IA, Abigail, Elizabeth and Emma Martin of Moravia, IA, and Nathan, Colin, Evan, and Madi Eich of Omaha, NE. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Joe (Dixie) Davis of
Cromwell, IA, Jack (Donna) Davis of Van Meter, IA, Candace (Bob) Brown of Van Meter, IA and Cindy (Gregg) Flaherty of Murray, IA as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Marty Burgus officiating.
Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at Kale Funeral Home.
The family and funeral home asks that anyone in attendance at the visitation or funeral service please follow social distancing guidelines. The use of face coverings are required. Interment will be in the Murray Cemetery.
