Betty Jackson

Betty Jeanne Jackson, daughter of John J. Foley and Beulah (Storrs) Foley was born Jan. 27, 1931 near Afton, Iowa and passed from this life Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 90 years of age.

Betty lived most of her life in Clarke and Adams Counties. Betty attended Colony #8 Country school for 8 years, graduating from Cromwell High School with the class of 1948. Following graduation she moved to Creston, where she worked for Hyde and Vanderflute. From 1948 until 1953 she worked at First National Bank.

Betty was United in marriage to Ronald Earl Jackson on March 22, 1953 at the Christian Church in Creston, Iowa. Their union was blessed by four children, Charles Dean, Lyle Gene, JoAnn Kay, and Michael Ray.

In 1954, Ronald and Betty moved to a grain and livestock farm in Murray, Iowa. They were fortunate to call this farm ‘home’ for more than 60 years. Betty was a homemaker, in addition to  helping on the farm, until she accepted a position at the Murray branch of Clarke County State Bank in 1965. She retired as the branch manager in 2012 after more than 50 years of service in banking.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and just recently a great great grandmother. She was an original member of the Murray Housing Association. She was Treasurer for the Murray School Board of Education. She also was part of the Murray Dollars for Scholars, Murray Betterment Commitee, Nifty Neighbors Club and U.M.W. (Murray United Methodist Church.) Betty enjoyed having family together and making sure her family was stuffed full of the most delicious homemade food. She enjoyed tending her garden and mowing the yard. She also enjoyed cleaning... a lot.
