Jim and Marge Thomas

Jimmy “Jim” Lamont Thomas was born in Richland township, Grand River Iowa on August 20th 1936 to Alva and Grace Thomas. He passed from this life on October 10, 2020 at the Clarke County Hospital at the age of 84 years.

Margaret (Marge) Jones Thomas was born in Union township, Ellston Iowa on August 20th 1939 to William and Hazel Jones. Marge passed from this life on March 5, 2021 at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center in Creston, Iowa

Marge and Jim attended Ellston High School together graduating in 1957. They dated and fell in love realizing the other was the love of their lives, they were married on August 22, 1957. From this union two sons were born, Richard and Gary.

Marge worked for O’Bryan Brothers in Leon sewing garments for several years. She then became a Career Underwriter for Farm Bureau Insurance, later entering into a partnership owning her independent insurance company until she retired. After retirement Marge enjoyed being involved in the community. Marge served several years as the Grand River city clerk.

Jim worked for the Decatur county road department for 42 years as motor grader operator. He served 44 years on the Grand River Volunteer Fire Department, seven of those years he served as Chief. Jim retired from the county on June 30, 2002. After retirement Jim spent many hours mowing their acreage with his John Deere mower. Jim’s dog Raiden was always by his side. They were inseparable and Raiden never let Jim out of his site.

Marge and Jim left their acreage and moved to Osceola in 2014. They enjoyed going for drives in the country. They spent much time visiting family.

Jim preceded Marge in death, after 63 years of marriage. They were both survived by two sons Richard (Tammy) Thomas of Osceola, Gary Thomas of Wichita Kansas, Marge’s brother Lloyd Jones, sister Millie (Ron) Pittman of Florida, and Maxine (John) McGilvery of Madrid. Grandchildren Heather (Dan) Wells, Jennifer (Adam) Velde, Byron (Nicole) Jimmerson, Jewel (Matt) Hogberg, Matthew (Jennifer) Thomas, Sara (Justin) Esparza, Mackenzie (Chad) Miller. Several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding them in death were their parents, William and Hazel Jones, Alva and Grace Thomas, siblings, Robert Jones, David and Genora Jones, Ken Jones, Curtis Jones, Mary Jones, Mary and Gene Collier, Maurice and Beulah Thomas, Donald (Dean) and Virginia Thomas, Louise Nelson, Martha Jones and niece Laurie McGilvery.

Cremation was entrusted to Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.

Memorial graveside services will be Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Ellston Cemetery near Ellston, Iowa.
