Cecelia Carolyn Smith McDowell, daughter of Cecil (Red) and Aletha B. Smith was born July 10, 1935 in Clarke County, Iowa. Cecelia attended schools in Osceola, Iowa.
Following high school, Cecelia worked for Armour Meat Industries until her marriage to Con McDowell on, July 26, 1953. After her marriage, Cece worked for Allied Nationwide while Con was working for a plumbing company in Des Moines. Con was drafted into the Army on November 1, 1954 where he served overseas in Germany. Cece then traveled over to Germany in 1956 while Con was stationed there. When she returned, she worked for Stan Stickler TV, plumbing and appliances. After that she worked at Clarke Community School District as the School Board Secretary until 1980. Con and Cece purchased Smith Oil Company business in 1975.
Later the company was sold and she enjoyed her retirement golfing, playing bridge with her friends, crocheting, reading, spending time with her family and friends at Sun Valley Lake and traveling by motor home with her husband.
Her survivors are son, Craig McDowell and wife Dee of Osceola, son, Coyle McDowell of Osceola, daughter, Christi Patterson and husband Bill of Ames, Iowa. Grandchildren are, Ashley (Cory) Jeralds, Marcus McDowell, Melissa Remy, Shelby (Kasey) Patterson, Contasha and Tucker Patterson,Tonya (James) Richman, Cassie (Travis) Holmes, Tosha Shelley and Matthew Morse. She was blessed with many great grandchildren as well.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years,=parents and daughter Conda, and sister Juanita McWilliams.

In keeping with her wishes, Cecelia was cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
