David and Ruth Ann Hughes

David Edward Hughes, son of Albert Dewey Hughes and Mable (Krittenbrink) Hughes was born July 1, 1939 in Creston, Iowa and passed from this life Friday, December 18, 2020 at Southern Hills Specialty Care at 81 years of age.

Ruth Ann Hughes, daughter of Roy Berry and Ruth (Wahl) Berry was born September 29, 1938 in Cumming, Iowa and passed from this life Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 80 years of age.

David received his education in Murray, Iowa where he graduated from Murray High School in 1957. Ruth Ann graduated from Norwalk High School and attended secretarial college in Des Moines. They were united in marriage on May 20, 1960 at the Murray Church of Christ in Murray, Iowa and two children blessed this union.

David worked for a number of years for Gibbs-Cook in Des Moines which is now Caterpiller and most recently had worked as at Bus Mechanic and school bus driver for I-35 Schools.

Ruth Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth Ann also enjoyed reading and doing embroidery work. Ruth Ann worked for Principal and State Farm before working for the State of Iowa with the Dog and Horse Program.

David and Ruth Ann farmed near New Virginia and during the farm crisis of the 80′s he was on a team to counsel farmers. He loved John Wayne Westerns, farming and working with the land. He was also fond of horses and enjoyed draft horse pulls. Most of all, he loved being with family and friends.

Those relatives who preceded David and Ruth Ann in death were both their parents; David’s brother, Thomas Hughes and Ruth Ann’s brother, George Berry.

They leaves to cherish their memory; daughter, Kathleen (Joe) Schmit of Murray, IA, son, Craig (Gloria) Hughes of Osceola, IA, grandson, Raymond (Jackie) Schmit of Osceola, grandson, Patrick Schmit of Kansas City, KS, grandson, Christopher (Katha) Schmit of Iowa City, IA, granddaughter, Dakota Hughes; 2 great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services are being held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the Murray Cemetery, Murray, Iowa.
