Edward Paull Casey was born July 19, 1960 in Leon, Iowa to Max and LaVonne Williams Casey. He grew up in the Humeston area and graduated from Mormon Trail High School in 1978. He then went to Des Moines Area Community College and in 1981 joined the United States Navy. He served in the Navy for 22 years. Ed worked on a minesweeper vessel and was stationed in London, Mayport, Jacksonville, and other bases. He also served during the Gulf War.

After retiring, he moved back to southern Iowa. Ed was always proud of his roots in the Humeston area. Ed enjoyed his job at the Lakeside Casino for over 18 years. This career suited him well. As everyone knows, Ed never met a stranger, he enjoyed meeting new people, and was always quick with a good story and a great sense of humor.

His family remembers his quick wit, his selflessness, kindness, and his bad Hawaiian shirts. Ed always had a way to make people smile, laugh, and feel at ease. His children enjoyed going out to eat with him and witnessing how many people knew Mr. Casey.

Ed passed away on May 14, 2021 surrounded by family at his sister, Sheri’s home, where he had stayed the last few weeks as his health deteriorated. He will be greatly missed by his children: Chris, Emma, and Cassie; grandchildren: Nathan and Haley; mother to his children, Anne Casey; siblings: John “Stumpy” (Dale Bowie) Casey and Sheri (Richard) Mongar; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Max and LaVonne; paternal grandparents Paul and Connie Casey; and maternal grandparents Guy and Mae Williams.
