Darwin Green

Darwin Lee Green, age 62 of Hudson, IA., the only son of James Clinton Green and Carol Jane Gardner Green, was born on March 16, 1959 in Osceola, IA. He left this life on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at his home.

Darwin attended Clarke Community High School and graduated with the Class of 1977. Darwin worked as a lifeguard at Robinson Community Swimming Pool during high school at Osceola. He was an avid bowler-something that he really enjoyed and won many trophies for during his life. He played tennis as well, enjoyed skateboarding and also shooting pool at the Pool Hall. Darwin woke his family up every morning during junior high playing his snare drum to Deep Purple-Smoke on the Water. He also loved blaring KISS to a black light and a strobe light and kept the neighborhood awake. During tornadoes when the rest of us were in the basement, Darwin stayed in his room and enjoyed turning his radio up very loud to Ridin’ the Storm Out.

Darwin joined the United States Navy on August 17, 1977. He traveled numerous places such as Italy and Spain on the USS Guadalcanal. He was honorably discharged on July 31, 1981. He then worked and went to college at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He graduated from Simpson with a degree in accounting in 1989. Darwin worked several places in his life. He worked for Randall’s Food Market in Hudson, Iowa for many years as well.

In 1993, Darwin was united in marriage to Bonnie Jo Wrage at Waterloo, Iowa. The couple made their home in Waterloo and Hudson, Iowa.

Preceding Darwin in death were his parents, Wife Bonnie Jo Green in 2004, Grandparents-Irvin and Violet Green, Lloyd and Clarice Gardner, Sister Vicki Fattore, Aunt Mary Gardner and cousin Gregory White.

Survivors include his siblings: Cheryl Lynn Schlotterer of Stuart, IA. and Patti Ann Jimmerson (Galen) of Grand River, IA. Nieces and nephews: Jessica Lynn Greenbauer (Zach) of Reston, VA., Justin David Summers (Sarah) of Afton, IA., Byron Lee Jimmerson (Nicole) of Osceola, IA., Alisha Lamb (Cassidy) of Murray, IA., Jewel Joy Hogberg (Matthew) of Kansas City, MO., Joshua Kyle Summers (Britanie) of Hot Springs, SD. Aunts and Uncles: Nancy Ellen Saddoris (Stanley) of Eden Prairie, MN., Clarice Marie White (Robert) of Osceola, IA. along with cousins, friends and his best friend and special cat- Shania whom he treated like a queen.

Darwin had a special place in his heart for his great nieces and nephews as well: Carson Alanna and Tegan Jane Summers, Emma LeeAnn, Gracelynn Michelle and Beau Alton Jimmerson, Ayden Michael, Audrina Mae and Abel Matthew Lamb, Dylan Matthew Hogberg and Claire Joyce Hogberg, Ellianah Marie, Leeland Kyle, Benjamin Michael, Everett Paul and Rowyn Daniel Summers.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, Iowa.
