Melvin Carl Davis was born August 18, 1943 in Osceola, Iowa to Murel Davis and Ruthie (Neisemier) Davis and passed from this life on January 2, 2022 at the Clarke County Hospital.
Melvin grew up on a farm west of Murray, Iowa. He was the middle child of 3 boys. Melvin received his early education at the Thayer school in Thayer, Iowa. Later, his parents sent the boys to Murray Community School where he went on to graduate with the class of 1961.
On August 25, 1962, Melvin married Alice Kearney. Three children were born to this union: Melanie, Leon and Lane.
Melvin worked for the railroad for many years. When he and Alice were first married he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad line. A few years later, he worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad line as an engineer, from which he retired in 1996.
Melvin was known as a hard worker and was involved with many business endeavors. Melvin was a member of the Lorimor City Council while he resided there. He owned and operated the Whistlestop convenience store in Lorimor for several years with Alice. He also owned and operated a cow-calf operation for several years.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Alice in May of 2021, his parents, brother Larry Davis and son Leon Davis.
He is survived by his daughter Melanie (Ted) Halls and son Lane (Kristi) Davis of Murray; grandchildren Tara (Cole) Page, Justin (Paige) Halls and Jessica (Ben) Heath all of Murray, Austin (Courtney) Halls of Walcott, Iowa, Kris Davis of Osceola and Jordan Davis of Murray; great-grandchildren Caden, Mallory and Caleb Page, Tate and Teigen Halls, and Hudson and Isaac Heath all of Murray; brother Donald Davis of Kansas, sister-in-law Dowell Kearney of Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no services for Melvin at this time.
