Dorothy Leona Daly (McClarey) was born March 22, 1929 in Decatur County, Iowa to Charles and Dolly McClarey. She lived most of her young life around the Davis City and Leon areas. She attended public schools in Davis City through the 11th grade. She was the 3rd of nine sisters and brothers. In the midst of the hardships brought by the Great Depression she developed a strong kinship and commitment to her family. She often fulfilled the roll of mother to younger siblings.
At the age of 18, she married Rollin E. Daly of Lamoni. They began their life together making a home in an outbuilding on the Sargent Brothers limestone quarry near Osceola where Rollin was employed. In her adult life, she and Rollin continued to provide support for her disadvantaged family. Although Dorothy married young, she possessed a mature strength and faith that contributed to the lives of those closest to her. In 1952 she gave birth to her only child, a daughter named Sharon. Dorothy faced many health issues throughout her life, but was steadfastly committed to her husband and child, as well as her siblings and parents.
Throughout this time she maintained a warm and welcome home for family and friends. She pursued an interest in embroidery, sewing and crafts. It was during this period of her life that she also made a commitment to her Savior and lived forth under His grace. She became a faithful member of the Osceola Church of Christ. As years passed, Dorothy’s health worsened and she eventually lost the ability to provide for others. This was a great loss to her, as she became the receiver of care, and no longer the giver. Dorothy and Rollin were married 73 years when Rollin passed from life in 2020. They were nearly inseparable in their later years as they quietly sat next to each while reading or watching television. After Rollin’s passing Dorothy initially lived under the care of Homestead of Osceola Assisted Living, then more recently under more extensive care at the Village in Indianola.
She passed from this life on Sunday, February 13, 2022 shortly after a visit with her daughter Sharon at the age of 92. Her departure was quick and painless, according to the Lord’s plan. She is survived by daughter Sharon and husband David, Woodburn IA, sister Addie Rickard, Columbia Falls, MT and brother Jim McClarey, Asheboro, NC., as well as nieces and nephews. Her life will forever be remembered for its humility and loving service.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be conducted by Kale Funeral Home in Osceola at 2 p.m., Monday, February 21, 2022. Family visitation will be offered for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral in the Maple Hill Cemetery, next to her husband.
